What IS a Can Man?
A firefighter whose task is to haul a fire extinguisher. When Bill Feehan was interviewed by his oldest son, Bill, and filmmaker and photographer Harvey Wang in 1992, he told a story about speaking to a young probie in the Department and saying to him, "If you're gonna be the "can man", BE the can man." A firefighter whose task is to haul a fire extinguisher. When Bill Feehan was interviewed by his oldest son, Bill, and filmmaker and photographer Harvey Wang in 1992, he told a story about speaking to a young probie in the Department and saying to him, "If you're gonna be the "can man", BE the can man." This term carried us through making the film "Chief", which reiterates that there is nothing more noble than working for the benefit of others. Beginning in 2017, Beth Feehan (Bill's daughter-in-law), Harvey Wang (who filmed the original interview) and Robert Maass, Brooklyn based photographer and film maker, teamed up over four years to craft a film that honored Bill's life of service. Joined by a small team of professionals including Eddie Rosenstein (Eyepop Productions), Joseph Schroeder (SchroederDocs) and Freddy Noriega, "Chief" came to life on the 20th anniversary of 9/11 with the financial support of FirstNet: Built by AT&T and JPMorgan Chase. "Chief", available on YouTube and airing on PBS stations nationally this fall.
